72 hours transport strike in West Bengal

The ongoing dispute regarding the demand of bus, minibus & taxi owners association to increase the fares after recent hike in price of fuel has turned a new high today as they have now called for a state-wide massive 72 hours transport strike. The transport owners association chiefs sat in a meeting with the transport minister of West Bengal Sri Ranjit Kundu which apparently failed.

SDO Alipurduar attacks TV journalists

In a very unexpeted move, today, Sub-Divisional Officer of Alipurduar Mr. Anurag Srivastava attacked the television journalists of News Time press and he broke their costly camera. It was seen on camera, until it was broken, the SDO came near to the video journalist and reached out to grab the video camera. Then SDO hurled it onto the floor and broke it into pieces.

North Bengal University gets funds

Construction of the second campus of North Bengal University in Jalpaiguri has already been sanctioned by the higher education department; the second round of funds amounting to Rs. 28 lakhs will be used to erect the boundary wall around the 38.18-acre plot for the NBU campus. The campus was approved by the state government in November 2009 as there was a growing demand for PG courses from the students of Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar districts.
